# Typefold > Typefold is a document generation API. You design a template once, in a visual editor or in HTML and Handlebars, and your app sends JSON data to get back a PDF, an Excel (XLSX) workbook or an image. It is hosted in the EU (Austria and Germany) or self-hosted with Docker or Kubernetes, and made by Runecode OÜ in Estonia. Typefold is used for invoices, reports, tickets, certificates, shipping labels and other business documents. It makes PDF/A-2, 3 and 4, PDF/UA-1 and UA-2, Factur-X and ZUGFeRD e-invoices, digitally signed and password-protected PDFs, fillable forms, QR codes and barcodes. Official clients exist for .NET (Typefold.Client on NuGet), Python (typefold-client on PyPI) and Node.js (@typefold/client on npm), and it connects to Claude, Cursor and other AI assistants through an MCP server, and to n8n and Zapier. ## Pricing Every feature is on every plan, including Free. You design a template once, in the visual editor or in HTML and Handlebars, and your app sends JSON to get back a PDF, an Excel workbook or an image. Use the hosted service in the EU, or run it on your own servers with Docker or Kubernetes. - Does the Free plan end? No. It has no time limit and every feature, and its documents carry no watermark. Upgrade when you need more than 100 documents a month. - What counts as a document? Each render that finishes, whatever its page count. Test renders, previews in the editor, and failed or cancelled renders don't count. - What happens when I reach my plan's documents? New renders stop with a clear error until the next month, unless you turn on more documents with a monthly spend cap you set. Owners get an email at 80% and 100%. - Can I cancel at any time? Yes, in the billing portal. The plan runs to the end of the period you paid for, then the workspace moves to the Free plan. Price changes are announced 30 days ahead. - Can I pay yearly? Yes, and a year costs ten months: Starter €290, Pro €490 and Business €1,490. Documents still renew every month, and extra documents are billed monthly. You can switch in Studio at any time. - Who bills me? Polar, our merchant of record, in euros. VAT is added at checkout where it applies. - Where is my data stored? The service and its database run in Austria, and files and backups are stored in Germany. Typefold is made by Runecode OÜ in Estonia. - Can I bring my jsreport templates? Yes. Import a jsreport export and render the templates by the same name or shortid as before. - Can I run Typefold on my own servers? Yes.
